Introduction

The Youth IGF Ethiopia is a platform that aims to raise the awareness of youth on Internet governance discourse and to encourage the young generation to have more active engagement in policy discussion.

Inspired by the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a multi-stakeholder forum for policy dialogue on issues of Internet governance, the Youth IGF Ethiopia is also established in the same multi-stakeholder approach, adapting a bottom-up approach to create an open platform for Ethiopian youth to engage in discussions on Internet governance.

Through the Youth IGF Ethiopia, we provide the Ethiopian youth community with the opportunity to engage and participate in discussions on Internet governance at national, regional, and international levels. We aim to facilitate a common understanding of how to maximize the opportunities of the Internet while addressing the risks and challenges that arise.

Our vision is to create a vibrant platform that empowers the Ethiopian youth to actively participate in shaping the future of the Internet, to promote digital inclusion, and to foster a culture of responsible use of the Internet. We believe that the Youth IGF Ethiopia can be a catalyst for positive change and contribute to building a better digital future for all Ethiopians.

Our main objectives are to:

  • Empower Ethiopian youth to actively participate in public policy discussions on Internet governance.
  • Foster a sustainable, secure, and resilient Internet ecosystem in the country.
  • Strengthen and improve the contribution of Ethiopian youth to capacity building for Internet governance in the country.
  • Connect Ethiopian youth with stakeholders in the Ethiopian internet ecosystem to discuss public policy issues related to the key elements of Internet governance.
  • Enable Ethiopian youth to identify emerging problems related to the Internet, bring them to the attention of competent bodies and the public, and make recommendations.
  • Promote youth engagement and participation in shaping the future of the Internet in Ethiopia.

If you are young person aged between of 15 and 35 and interested in Internet governance, you can become a member whether you are from the government sector, private sector, civil society, academia, technical community, or intergovernmental organizations.
